Birthday Weekend!

I am now the grand old age of 29 and to celebrate the last Birthday before I hit old age, we decided to visit San Rafael Swell, somewhere we've been wanting to visit for a long time. Before we left, Dusty set up this really cute table with all my prezzies - it was so nice of him but as we were in a rush, I decided to leave opening them until we returned.

The first night, we found a really secluded camping spot with what we thought was wood and stones to build a fire pit. When Dusty picked up the wood he noticed it was nailed together and it hit us that it was a grave.......I'm so glad we realized it before building the fire pit out of the grave stones. Time to move onto a different camp spot!

This was our new and improved (as in no dead people) camp site in the middle of a deserted canyon. Here's Dusty making my Birthday dinner - yummy!

This was the view above the camp site with the sun setting.

We went for a hike after dinner and had fun playing with the dead trees :)

Just don't ask what he's doing but the view was cool!

When we got back, Dusty set up a birthday surprise...he had brought mini patisseries from my favorite french bakery as my birthday cake......so sweet!

They were delicious and we polished them off without any problems - the lemon tart was amazing!

We woke up to the most beautiful scenery and just chilled for a few moments, which is highly unusual for us - we're usually up and out within 20 minutes.

On our way to the swell, we found a cool old truck - Dusty got in without hesitation on the bare, rusty springs to get the shot....it was worth it for sure
There were tons of stunning view and arches - this one is off in the whit rock to the left

We arrived at Little Wild Horse canyon after lunch and although it was pretty busy we had some time to ourselves on the way up to get some photos.

You'll notice our cool matching Cam0 hats that I bought especially for the trip - pretty awesome!

As you go up, the walls get narrower and narrower until you can only fit one person up at a time.

Dusty trying to move mountains ;)

Spot the Sarah....

They were fun to play in!

Nice family photo - it was hard to get on top of the rock in time for the timer but I made it :)

After the hike we drove to the near by river and on the way, it looked like a moon scape with loads of different types of sand. We collected a few of them to keep.

Isn't this just the weirdest landscape - I'm out there on the ledge if you can't tell.

We found an abandoned house by the river.

It had an upstairs with a crooked ladder up the outside.

There was also a smaller cabin next to it where they kept the cattle.

We finally made it to the Muddy River - that is actually it's name and you ca see why.....

Dusty tried to float down it but he got kind of stuck.

The storm rolled in that night so we decided to go home and unwrap my prezzies :)

PS - I hate this blogger software!

So glad your birthday was a blast! That was beautiful country. I mean, even though I'm not a camper, I can appreciate lovely landscape. :)

Happy happy birthday! You should have told us what your presents were. I was SO curious.

I love the matching hats :) That grave story is really creepy. Good thing you caught it or you would've been haunted for sure. There's a new movie out called Hesher and Joseph Gordon Levitt totally reminds me of Dusty more than any of his other movies!

Those rocks look like the ones in that movie 127 hours where he gets stuck. I'd love to go camping like that, but it wouldn't be very fun with babies. Glad you had a good birthday and dusty treated you right!

Happy Birthday Sarah! All your presents look too pretty to unwrap! I was mighty impressed with Dusty's wrapping skills! I'm lucky if I get my present written on a card. Again your camping adventure makes me want to go camping, except the grave part, that was kinda sad. Makes you wonder what happened, or if it was like an animal or something else...
