Ghost Town Tour

As promised, here are some of the high lights of our vacation or as I like to think of it - a ghost town tour. We had originally planned to see only one ghost town (Bannack) on our trip however it turned out that every place we stopped was a dead or slowly dying mining town....it was fascinating and I think Dusty has found his new dream state to live in. There were so few people and such a lot of history, he just kept saying "if only I had a metal detector".....if only!!
Anyway here are the pictures which I think are worth a lot more than my ramblings.

Bannack State Park...

This was the creepy old Hotel and if you look hard enough you can see one of the ghosts that haunt it!!

We should have known this is where the Canadians wanted The Bear Claw all along....
These are the gallows that were made for the renegade sheriff and were in straight view from the jail.

How funny is this picture of the old Saloon....perfect timing as they were the only other people in the park and they just happened to be in cowboy attire.

The masonic temple that the local masons still help upkeep.

We tried to camp after this but couldn't find anywhere, we did find another abandoned mining town randomly but there was no way in hell I was camping there.

Below is the house of the last woman to live in Granite, she died there in 1965 at the age of 75.

This was the house of the mine owner and I'm not sure what/who was in it as it was all boarded up but we heard a very loud stomping inside(now you can understand why I couldn't camp there)!!!

All that is left of the building over the 1500 foot deep Ruby Shaft that, if i remember correctly produced 53 billion dollars in copper and silver.
So after being a little freaked out and dark descending we went into the nearest town, Philipsberg and yes, you've guessed right, it was another old mining town. This was by far the best one - everything was very grand and picture perfect. We found the only hotel in town and called the number on the door and to my surprise an English woman answered. A sign I'm sure that we were meant to stay no matter how awful. To our amazement the owner, Sue Jenner had completely remodeled the hotel and it was amazing.....

We had such a laugh with the cowboy themed room - I think Dusty looks great in the outfit!!

Glacier park was next on our list and then Canada, but you all know we only got to one of those places and according to Rainy it was probably the better of the two!

This was the most exhilarating and terrifying drive up the cliff edge to the top of the mountain.

After the Canadian fiasco we drove for hours and stayed in a crummy hotel in Great Falls but the next day we headed for Butte. This was an amazing place and completely fascinating.

We stayed in a B&B here but it was no normal B&B - it was the Copper King Mansion and the whole thing was a shrine to the previous tenant who was one of the wealthiest men in America.
Our room belonged to the only member of the family still alive in New York somewhere and just in case we forgot this, there was a lovely photo of her beside the bed (creepy or what)!!

Someone was pleased with their prezzies...

This shower was about the funniest thing I have ever done in my life. It sprayed water from every angle imaginable and you couldn't get any soap on you at all - we couldn't stop laughing.

Dusty summed up this place very well when he said "I've never been in a place that was more active in the night than in the day".

The next day we continued on to Idaho falls and was a lovely rest stop on our way back.
We did however have a pickle eating contest - Dusty bet me $50 that I couldn't eat a pickle - how could I resist!! But as with any gamble I lost it all when I bet him that he couldn't either, as you can see he did - what a bastard!!

I want to travel. I love my babies, but that's one thing I think I seriously missed out on, and it's traveling with Jeff. Oh well. I've ONLY got another twenty years until this new baby is out of the house...unless they take after their father, and then I'll be lucky to get rid of them at all.
Oh, and for your information, if I ever open a bed and breakfast, you can bet that each and every room will have a picture of me in it, next to the bed, no less. I'm all about creating "the mood".

At least you started early...you'll still be young when their all grown up :) You can sign us up now for a night at the creepy Rainy hotel(as long as you make the pictures black and white-I think that adds greatly to the creep factor)!

Vic and I lived in Missoula, MT for about 3 months when we were working for Future Shop. It was our very favorite place to be, we still sometimes dream of moving there.
Looks like a fun trip!

Pickles are my second most hated food - after Liver - I nearly threw up but I had to win!!

It's a definite toss up for us between Washington and Montana - they're both great places to live!

That loooks like a lot of fun. I would have camped in the ghost town. And for the record, I don't hate camping, I just haven't liked it lately. I think it's because I'm pretty much camping at home, seeing as we just got our toilet in yesterday. And because we have too much to do on our house, so going somewhere overnight doesn't seem that enticing.

I LOVE Pickles. LOVE I pretty much can't eat a sandwich or burger with out them...I will eat a whole jar for 50 bucks! But we all have our dislikes. I am that way about sushi...

Your trip looked way fun, I really need a vacation. You guys are just the people to go to places like that, and know how to make the most of it. Camping in a ghost town would give me the creeps too.
