This was the first one we found, it was set in the mid 1800's by surveyors using chains to measure the distance. they would mark the corners by carving notches in the stones.
This was the area where we searched for the second one.
This one was an aluminum post set in the early nineties.
We found a total of five corners that day and the guy I was with was giving me crap because he found the first four, luckily I found the last one but it was buried two feet under the road and I had to find it with a metal detector and a shovel. so I totally redeemed my self.
This is a picture of the one I found. It was set in the 1920's
I then went to Seattle to scan the interior of a veterans hospital to bring it up to code for current earthquake standards. This is a picture from the top of the hospital at night. you can see the space needle at the far left.
We had to survey the spaces in between the floors where all of the utilities were located. it was a lot of ducking and stooping.
We had a little time at the end of the project so me and a couple of guys went to pike place market. This is Puget Sound.

This is us eating oysters in the half shell.
I then went back to Washington to survey some land for the National Parks Service. It was located in Stehekin WA, a town that doesn't have any roads to it, you have to take a boat or a plane to get there. we stayed in Chelan, WA the first night, this is the picture of the lake water outside of our hotel.
This was our GPS set up
This is the airport there, it is only grass.
Me eating lunch. we had to survey every tree over eight inches, which in Washington is about every two feet, so we were really busy.
This is a lizard I caught.
This is the salmon in the river where I was working.
There was a bear crossing the road right where I was working so I followed him into the woods to get a picture. when he stood up on his back legs I quickly backed off.
Just a cool picture of the river.
This is rainbow falls, it is a three hundred foot drop.
This was my Joseph Smith moment.
This is the lake as we waited for the boat on our last day,

So, this post just reaffirmed the fact that I really don't understand what you do for your job. What does surveying mean?
I really like the old corner markers.
It's wacky that you can still find some that they did.
See, I am happy that you've found something that you love to do. This seems like THE perfect job for you...Kinda like how Jeff's job is perfect for him. I guess I can see what I know of your personality in what you do. Very cool. And oysters on the half shell? GROSS!!!
Wow, some great pictures and places.
Fantastic photos Dusty, we're really impressed - you've really made the job look interesting. Hope you get to see some more awesome sights and relics! Best of luck x Irene & Anton
I don't know how I missed this post! That's cool that you get to go to all these rad places. I don't envy surveying all those trees, but being in the forest like that is really cool. What did you think of the oysters? I wish you would have gotten a picture of the bear on it's hind legs.
