Last Weekend

We had a great Halloween party last Saturday, thanks to Kelli and of course Grandma and Grandpa for always letting us mess up their lovely yard :)
The boys insisted on being power rangers - I had no idea they were still popular but apparently so!
I was a BYU fan (the local uni football team) and Dusty was Bret from the flight of the conchords - notice the sweet duck sweater! And for my family in England - that is Leisha the cave woman (our sister).

On Sunday, we went for a lovely drive on the Nebo loop and stopped to find a geochache. Bad idea - Dusty was concentrating on the GPS and forgot to take the keys out of the ignition!! Whoops!!
At first we tried a stick to pry the door open to hit the unlock button - that didn't work!

We walked around trying to find something stronger, preferably metal but there was nothing to be found and no cell phone reception!
As we already had a small crack in the windshield we had the great idea to bash a hole in it. I think the pictures explain the rest - yes I remembered the camera but not the keys, at least I was thinking of the blog - I've got my priorities straight!!

Well $150 later we have a new windshield...it was the most expensive drive I've ever had but I know some day I'll laugh about it...actually I already have!!

Have you ever heard of calling the cops to get your keys out? It's much cheaper. I also leave copies of my keys with Wendy for such occasions. I locked my keys in just the other day in fact. I'm sure Wendy loved spending her day bringing my keys!

Kelli, I already asked her that, notice she said NO CELL RECEPTION. Sarah, I have to get a new windshield, too. I just found out when Jeff got back from getting emissions and safety tests. SO PISSED! I didn't even get the thrill of bashing the stupid thing in.

OH my that is so funny, and so crappy at the same time. I have heard of some people wiring a key to their car somewhere for such occasions. I lock my keys in the car all the time! I am glad you took pictures! that is GREAT!

That's so sad! i wouldn't dare break the window! i would have made him walk for hours before resorting to that! :0) I'm a nice wife.

Oh I hate replacing windshields for the safty tests - sooooo annoying. It did seem really wrong to bash it in but we had very little choice and I didn't want to waste my day hitch hiking or walking - i'm very impatient!

I love that you guys are so positive about everything, my husband would have had some choice words to say about that situation.

Okay, sorry I posted the wrong info about your costumes on my blog. And... I'm so impressed you were thinking about your blog at a time like that! (I locked my keys in the car with the ignition on with both Maggie and Lynus strapped in their car seats. They couldn't get out to unlock the door, I had to call the cops.) I am also impressed at your ability to bash in the windshield!

Oh, and by the way, I wasn't as positive in my experience, I started crying!

Okay, PRICE MATCHING? I totally wish I would have thought of that. I consider myself pretty thrifty in the spending department...I'm always on the lookout for a better deal. I called around and found a guy that would come out and do it for 148 bucks plus tax. However, that doesn't include chip repair or free fixtures. You're the winner. I forget that the car maintenance department is also a form of retail. I'm always too scared of being totally screwed over, and then I usually am.

Cops usually charge money to get your keys out. I got charged 60 bucks once, and found out after the fact. But that's probably just because that cop was jerkwad. I shouldn't have paid it now that I think of it.

Magnetic key holders work well. I lock my keys in my car pretty much every where I go. Once at the pump of a gas station with the car running. Oh, and I love that picture at the top of your blog of you and Dusty in the sunlight. Very cool!

Yeah - we got a comment from Jeff, that's nearly as good as one from Grandma!!! Thanks for the tip and the compliment. This is the third time it's happened and two of those times he's been on the top of a mountain!
